Training-Workshop on Designing and Publishing Qualitative Research with AI-Assisted Data Analysis
July 3-5, 2025
Patio Pacific Boracay, Boracay, Malay, Aklan, Philippines
Seeking depth over breadth, stories over numbers, and nuance over trends, qualitative research is a painstaking journey of immersion in data, reflective coding, and iterative theme development, crafting a compelling narrative that honors human experiences, perspectives, and social phenomena. In the evolving landscape of research technology, designing qualitative research in an AI-assisted era requires an understanding of Generative AI's capabilities not as a replacement for human insight, but as a powerful augment. Crucially, the heart of qualitative research design—formulating incisive research questions, selecting appropriate qualitative research methodologies, defining applicable sampling strategies, and establishing robust ethical protocols—remains firmly in the researchers’ domain.
AI's most transformative impact is currently realized in qualitative data analysis, aiding researchers in managing overwhelming volumes of interviews and field notes. AI tools assist by transcribing audio and performing initial passes on text to identify potential codes, suggest themes, and map relationships, significantly expediting the analysis process while complementing human expertise. Considering these advancements and the need for scholarly rigor and ethical integrity, how can one design and publish a qualitative research manuscript that effectively combines human-centered inquiry and machinesupported analysis?
Aiming to capacitate qualitative researchers through skills development, the Asian Society of Teachers for Research, Inc. hosts the Training-Workshop on Designing and Publishing Qualitative Research with AI-Assisted Data Analysis on July 3-5, 2025 at the Patio Pacific Boracay, Boracay, Aklan, Philippines with our resource speakers Dr. Alexander S. Acosta of the Philippine School Doha and Dr. Imee C. Acosta of the Virginia Commonwealth University Qatar.
OBJECTIVES OF THE TRAINING-WORKSHOP:
- To explain the philosophical foundations of qualitative research and contrast them with other research paradigms;
- To choose and justify appropriate qualitative methods and data collection techniques;
- To utilize AI tools for qualitative data analysis tasks, including transcription, coding, and theme identification; and
- To prepare a qualitative research manuscript ready for submission to high-impact journals.
